WITH reference to your story “E.L. James ’ Fifty Shades books banned by Home Ministry” (NST, March 16), I feel that the books Fifty Shades Of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed may lead young women to a delusional romantic relationship , and change their perception of safe and healthy intimacy.

This article was published online a day after the demise of Mr Lee Kuan Yew.

 

LEE Kuan Yew, Singapore’s first prime minister and founding father, has died at the age of 91, leaving not only his sons, daughters and grandchildren, but also an island that would not stand as what it is now if not for him.

 

I am a Singaporean studying at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia. A few other Singaporean friends and I are greatly saddened by the loss of an important figure in Singapore. We can only express our condolences to his family and other fellow Singaporeans.

 

I was born in the era of stability, when Singapore had already taken shape and stood proud in the eyes of the world. I never really understood or experienced the hardship that Singapore went through but I thank Lee for everything that he had done for us. That much I know.

 

I was quite disappointed to see in my Twitter account that a group of young people were actually making jokes of his demise...

The Fifty Shades Of Grey erotica series has sold more than 100 million copies worldwide, which puts the trilogy on a par with the Harry Potter and Twilight series.

 

The books were published to cater to women’s fantasies. “It’s not written for men, it’s a fantasy for women,” author E.L. James told MSNBC host Ronan Farrow in one of her interviews.
